What is the best Caribbean Vacation spot?

Have been to The Atlantis in Nassau Bahamas and liked it- would not mind going back but can you recommend any other places? I like that PI is close to the east coast, US and that there is a lot to do but since I've been there before I wasn't sure if I may have overlooked another place. Would like to go to Hawaii but it's too far. I prefer having things to do vs. simply a tropical "island." Really good snorkeling would be a plus. Doesn't have to be Bahamas but within a 3-4 hour flight from NYC is a plus.

I love St. Thomas. Its a US territory so no passport needed!
Very beautiful and lovely there. So warm. I really hope to get back soon for I have family there!
