How did the barefoot bandit accomplish some of his goals?

I know this guy was caught, and I know he learned to fly by video games, but how did he get a flight pattern to the Bahamas?

He seems to be one enterprising kid! As to the flight pattern, I'm not sure one would need it. (Especially for a stolen airplane!) I think you could just about navigate from FL to the Bahamas by sight. Maybe. Apparently _he_ did.

Anybody want to start a pool on when his biopic will come out? I'd say -- two years, tops.

When do seat sales start for flights to the Bahamas mid-January?

I heard that airlines sometimes start seat sales if a flight hasn't reached a quota of sold tickets by a certain date and that they will begin seat sales at midnight on a particular day. Anybody have more information?
By seat sale, we typically mean ticket prices going ON sale (discount rates) not when they are available FOR sale.

If you're talking about January 2011, airline seats are already available. Typically, airlines will start selling seats 334 days (or 11 months) in advance, so flights to the Bahamas for Jan 2011 have probably been available since Feb 2010. Start looking now!!

If you're talking about Jan 2012, then you can start looking in Feb 2011.
