Where is the best place to stay in Nassau, Bahamas?

I'm going to be there for a couple of days in January and I can't decide if I want to pay for a cheap hotel in the center of Nassau OR at an all-inclusive hotel/resort that's located farther away from the main part of town. Other suggestions are welcomed.

A January escape from the winter weather sounds great, if it´s minus degrees and snowing where you are that is. I stayed in the Bahamas a few years back and would definitely rec commend anything on Paradise Island. You are treated like a star on this tropical island getaway, trips to Nassau are arranged by boat, which is very scenic and just a few hours in the town itself and that's enough, for its very loud and busy tourist trap in a way. The real joys are the pristine beaches on Paradise Island, as well as casinos, and tons of excursions and activities planned by the hotel. If you can afford it its well worth the investment. We were able to pack in a show at the Casino, swimming with the dolphins where "The Island of the Blue Lagoon" was filmed, and a day excursion with snorkeling, sports and a BBQ on a remote island, all arranged by the hotel!

I want to vacation in the Bahamas and fly into Nassau. What are my Starwood Hotel options?

None really. The only Starwood hotels in the Bahamas are in Grand Bahama Island. Are you looking at Starwood to use points, or for some other reason? In Nassau, depending on what you're looking for, I'd recommend the Radisson or the Riu or Atlantis in Paradise Island.
