Keel Laying Celebrated for the Disney Dream

In order to expand to many more itinerary options all across the globe, the Disney Cruise Line is expanding its fleet with two newly designed ships. The first of those two ships, Disney Dream, is celebrating its keel laying.

In maritime tradition, the keel laying celebration happens when the first piece of a new ship is brought into the building dock. As with the tradition, the captain of the Disney Dream laid a good luck coin under the keel during the ceremony.

The Disney Dream will join the Disney Cruise Line fleet in 2011. Shortly thereafter, in 2012, the Dream Fantasy will set sail. The total capacity of both ships more than doubles that of the current Disney Cruise Line fleet. The new ships weigh in at 128,000 tons and have 1250 wonderfully appointed staterooms onboard.

Disney called in the best from the Meyer Werft shipyard and the team at Walt Disney Imagineering to merge the perfect design with the magical storytelling of Disney. Together, they have created a wonderfully unique design.

Even though the exact design details aren't available yet, the Disney Dream will sure to please every family member. Spaces have been designed for families, kids and adults-only so that every person who boards will have a place to call home during the voyage.

Disney's unique cruise terminal in Port Canaveral, FL, will serve as home to the two new ships. Because of their size and the increased capacity, Disney has already started expanding their unique terminal.

Not only will the dock get longer and the terminal be reconfigured to a bigger size, construction on a new multi-floor parking garage has also begun. These new features will help smooth the loading and unloading process. So, keep a watchful eye on the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy as you won't want to miss sailing on these beautiful new ships.

Help! Which Caribbean Island?

Hello! Im planning a trip to one of the many Caribbean islands but i have no clue on which one to pick. We r a family of 4 adults who's priority is safety, cleanliness, beautiful beaches, touristy stuff/resort atmosphere and great nature/family activities with of course awesome weather!

My question goes to those who have been able to get direct flights to the particular island with no problems.

Also i was thinking about Barbados, Punta Cana, Bahamas, U.S./British Virgin Islands, St Lucia.....even Belize lol But i dont know what the key differences are b/w these islands even after google searches! Please any input will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

BTW 2 of us are in our 20's and the other 2 are in their early 60's so i guess that means i wont be able to really check out the nightlife....in fact as much as this hurts me to say....a place without a crazy nightlife would be ideal for their sake lol...

We have been to most of the Caribbean, and every one has advantages and disadvantages based on what you describe for what you want.

We think the beaches of Aruba and Punta Cana / Dominican Republic are quite pretty. Aruba is safer than most and has some other nice features. But it is a mid-sized destination with limited nature activities, other than the usual water recreation such as snorkeling, boating, etc. DR has great all-inclusive resorts and is known for them. But you largely stay on the resort property, although there is plenty to do at all of them. Safety is more of an issue.

The U.S. Virgin Islands are quite commercialized, have plenty of shopping, some great snorkeling, etc. But don't go out at night. The British Virgin Islands are safer, less touristy and more quiet.

Barbados and St. Lucia are a little more difficult to reach. Both are quite pretty, have OK shopping, offer some decent resorts, etc. St. Lucia in particular has nice places to see.

Belize makes a better cruise visit than long-term stopover, but others might disagree. If you go, definitely check out the river cave tubing.

Cancun is a strong choice for a direct flight. The beaches aren't as good as other places because of hurricane damage, but it has plenty to do, easy access to restaurants, a decent degree of safety and many good hotels and all-inclusive resorts.

Since you are going to the Caribbean for the first time, I would recommend Punta Cana, Cancun or even a cruise to get the full experience of several islands.
