Temperature In Bahamas

Im always cold, and need wet suit advice?

I am new to Diving.. i love Diving it so much fun.. But i dont know anything about wet suits..
However i am a very cold person, i am always cold, this past February i went down to Nassau Bahamas and went diving 50 feet below, The water temperature was 76' and I was freezing, i was shaking uncontrollably and on my ascend i felt faint then go sick as soon as i came up...
I will be diving again in Roatan, in May and i am interested in buying a very warm wetsuit before i go... i do not want to get cold again, i am scared that if its to cold for me i would have to cut my time in half or not be able to dive, i have lived all my life in FL so i am not use to cold or mild temperatures.

Please help, what would you recommend i look into buying?
im a very petite person im 5'1 and 107 lbs. im looking to buy a warm wet suit not much more then $300

Thank you in advanced
i appreciate it

Denise, you need at least a 5mm thick suit or maybe a 7mm. It should have what you call in the US a 'farmer John' attached to the legs and if possible get a top that is a 'pull-over' style with no zips in it - I know that sounds like hard work for getting into but believe me a pull-over without zips is THE warmest type of wetsuit. Also, get one with sealing cuffs at the wrists and ankles as these restrict the flow of water in and out of the suit - the last thing you need is all that water that your body has warmed suddenly flushing out of your sleeves. Well, I'm not sure what is available to you in Florida but I have to say that if you can track down a European suit by either Mares or Cressi you'll get a great suit. Alternatively, contact this company;
http://www.picassoamerica.com/catalog/default.php?cPath=2_23 they make suits designed for spearfishing but they are exactly what I have been talking about.

Good luck.

How cold does it get on deck on a cruise ship this time of year at night?

I'm trying to decide if just a sweatshirt or jacket over shorts that I've worn for the daytime, will be enough at night, or if I should pack jeans for evenings on deck. I'm thinking I already am packing one pair of cute sweatpants but jeans would take up a lot of room in my suitcase. So can I skip packing them? or would you suggest I DO pack more pants/jeans for the evenings? My cruise leaves in the middle of September and it will be going to the Caribbean islands of Puerto Rico, Bahamas,Grand Turk,and the Virgin Islands. Also I heard I should pack a sweater for the dining room because of the cold air conditioning. How are the rooms? Will we be able to control the temperature of them ourselves? Do you usually feel too hot or too cold in there at night? Thanks for any input! Sierra

The temperatures in the Caribbean and on all of the islands you have listed will be in the 80's during the day and in the 70's to 80's at night. When you are on ship you will not need a jacket or sweater outside on decks, even when the ship is moving at night. In addition, you are not likely to be spending that much time outside on deck at night because in the evenings is when you will be going to dinner, going to a show, going to the casino, and the disco or sitting around a lounge area. Some inside public areas can be cool but most are very comfortable. If you tend to get chilled very easily then for sure take along a sweater. Public areas will not be freezing cold. If you go for a stroll on the top decks at night and it feels cool, then just take a sweater. My advice is leave the jeans home; shorts will be fine.

Your cabin will have its own temperature control and you can set it and change it as you wish to get the best temperature for you. Many times the cabin steward will have the temperature set low when you enter the room the first time to ensure that it is cool enough. So if its not right for you, just start adjusting it to fit what you like.
